ABOUT THE VC COACH

Frame 11 (2).png

I am Anieke, a former VC who has seen a broad range of the VC spectrum from the inside: from Private Equity and Corporate VC to an independent Impact VC fund, and from being an informal investors, VC Scouts to being an operator in a startup.

Having worked for VC for over a decade, I know the pain of not having a clear Learning & Development program and support in place.

From my own experience, I know the value a confidential outside coach can bring to the quality of the decisions made in a fund. This is why I founded The VC Coach. So that VCs can be coached in being better versions of themselves and to make more positive impact.

I believe in the importance of making VCs:

  • Less biased, more diverse, and inclusive

  • More impact and purpose-driven: return and impact can go hand in hand!

  • Less hierarchical and political, more collaborative and entrepreneurial

I believe that indirectly The VC coach can help the sector to become more empowering, impactful, and inclusive.

Thank you for being a part of that journey!

WHAT I AM, WHAT I'M NOT AND WHY?

I am:

  • Going to help you to sharpen your goal, and identify how to achieve it with concrete action steps

  • Your confidential and ethical mirror, a guide to help you get from point A (where you are now) to point B (where you want to be).

  • An active listener, fully present for whatever you need to discuss (you decide). Someone who can ask Powerful questions, Communicate directly to achieve your objective

I am NOT:

  • attached to the outcome. For example, it might happen that you come to the conclusion in our coach session that you don’t actually want to be a VC. Honestly, I don’t care about that as long as you achieve your objective (whatever that may be).

  • a shrink. I am not going to help you deal with childhood trauma’s. If we uncover deeply rooted psychological or physical issues in our session(s), I will have to refer you to your GP or other medical professionals.

  • a consultant or a mentor. If you need someone to tell you what to do, hire a consultant or advisor for it. The difference between a consultant/advisor and a coach is that I will not tell you what to do but I’ll help you find the answer that is best for you simply by asking the right questions.

WHY A COACH?

It can be very effective to have a coach because it helps:

  • to talk to someone confidentially to get clarity or see solutions that you would not come to independently

  • to talk to someone with a fresh, outside perspective

  • to get in touch with your feelings and emotions. VCs are assumed to "know it all" and spend a lot of time making rational decisions. Some might even find it difficult to be vulnerable and "reach" their feelings or get into their body. I believe a lot of problems in VC (ranging from lost deals, to conflicts to burn-outs) can be prevented if more time is invested in Human Capital.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE COACHED BY THE VC COACH?

  • Confidentiality guaranteed

  • Expertise and focus on coaching Venture Capitalist professionals only

  • I have extensive experience working for several VC funds (both commercial, impact VCs and corporate VCs) for about a decade but am no longer attached to any fund and fully independent

  • I am an accredited coach who work according to the ICF (International Coach Federation) standards
